The brow lift (or forehead lift) operation is an aesthetic procedure to smooth out wrinkles in the forehead and elevate the eyebrows to a more arching and youthful position. As we age, the skin and soft tissues on our forehead become lax, allowing the development of horizontal forehead lines and making the shape and position of the eyebrows flatter and lower. With advanced brow lift surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Nicholas Sieveking, MD can improve these conditions with results that look natural.
Benefits of Brow Lift Surgery
The goal of the brow lifting procedure is to produce a smoother look to the forehead skin and elevate the eyebrows. In doing so, there is often a rejuvenating effect to the upper eyelids as the eyelid skin is tightened with the brow lift, and more elevation is created between the eyebrows and the eyelashes. The results can be a more youthful and a more “awake and alert” appearance. For some patients, this procedure can be performed endoscopically, which is a less invasive surgical technique. Dr. Sieveking will meet with you for an initial consultation to discuss your goals and determine the technique that will be best for your unique needs.
The Endoscopic Brow Lift Procedure
With the use of an endoscope, Dr. Sieveking can perform brow lift surgery through a few very small incisions that are inconspicuous behind the hairline. This approach is often ideal for patients with fewer forehead lines and who mainly need elevation of the eyebrows to achieve their goals.
For the patient who has deeper and more pronounced forehead wrinkles with low-set eyebrows, the traditional approach using an incision that spans the hairline from temple to temple may be necessary. Depending on the position of the hairline (high forehead verses low forehead) the incision is placed in front of or behind the hairline. Regardless of the location of the incision, the scars generally heal very well and become inconspicuous, allowing the individual to choose any preferred hairstyle.
The brow lift operation takes about one hour and is performed with some degree of sedation. Patients typically go home the same day of surgery, unless the brow lift is being performed in conjunction with other, lengthier procedures, such as a facelift and neck lift.
Stitches are removed in five to seven days. The obvious bruising and swelling is typically gone in 10 to 14 days. Most patients are able to resume normal daily activities after about one week.
Brow lift surgery can very effectively rejuvenate the forehead, improve the position of the eyebrows, and give patients a more relaxed and youthful appearance.
